Outdoor Bowling Club Update April 2008
The s played on for the first full season of 2007 and two teams played in the various leagues with some success.
During the closed season, the green has been dressed with 8tns. of top soil and seeded, spayed app. 6 times with various treatments and feed, also vacuumed to keep the leaves etc. clear and lightly scarified, followed by 2 further spring feeds.
Fortunately the mole and worm activity has declined.
The new mower has arrived and 3 cuts of the grass have been made, the old mower being used for headlands only.
Steve obtained a small landscape grant from the Wolds Countryside Services for the outside of the green and the fencing and hedge, which is now completed.
The seed beds have been prepared for the hardwearing grass and wildflower mix to be sown and are just waiting for the warmer weather to be complete.

2007
Further progress has been made in getting the village club up and playing at the green. Thanks to Steve Dawson and other volunteers the ditches (approx 160 metres) around the sides of the green have been dug and the backing boards fixed, which allows the club to compete in both the EBA and EBF leagues with posibility of attracting National Team to play at Binbrook Club. Once the severe frosts have passed the green will be cut and spiked to aerate the grass. Applications for grant aid are still proceeding to assist in the purchase of maintenance equipment for the green.
The committee is also assessing alterative ways of funding the the Club House / Pavilion with the objective of having this constructed for the start of the playing season, to this end the club house site has already been pegged out.
The league games have been arranged for the coming season in which it is hoped to play four teams, and prior to this, in early April there will be an open day for anyone to come and have a bowl, access being through the Fern Nurseries. New members are always welcome and at £25 per year (less than 50p a week) is really good value, there is also a special fee for students etc. and assistance with equipment.
