Binbrook -v- Buffaloes :12th July 2008
Report by Steve Parrott
The long awaited competition between the Binbrook Bowling club (BBC) and the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB) had arrived. The night before, the magnificent trophy of a wooden Buffalo kindly donated by Bro. Ernie Thompson C.P. and mounted on a wooden base which had been made by Keith Parrott of C.K.N. Joinery was paraded around the village of Binbrook for all to see finally resting in the village pub, the Plough Inn over night for security reasons.
The day finally arrived and most of the competitors could be be seen limbering up around the village from the brake of dawn. At 1.30 pm the Trophy was transported under tight security down to the newly built Bowls club and put on display. At 2.30pm all the competitors had arrived the teams where picked, the cannon fired and the match got under way. A few early nerves were showing by a few short and a few long bowls being bowled but every one soon settled down to a pleasant afternoon of Bowls.
After approximately 3.00 hours of intense competition all the rinks had finished and the results where being counted. While the scores were being totalled Tea, Coffee and biscuits were being served by members of the BBC and thanks to them everyone got rehydrated. The moment of truth had arrived who had won. After several recounts and intense discussion the results were announced by Degga Parrott, head referee.
The winners were the Binbrook Bowling Club. After a lot of hand shaking and congratulations the moment everyone had been waiting for had arrived the presentation of the Trophy . Bro. Ray Routledge R.O.H. from Lincoln R.A.O.B. presented the Trophy to Paul Collings of the B.B.C.
Name cards were then filled in and drawn raising funds for Local charities and the Bowls club.
After all of the excitement of the day it still wasn't over, there was now to be a buffet at the local pub which was kindly donated by the buffaloes from Lincoln. A raffle was organised to raise funds for the Bowls club and local charities all prizes being donated by either the R.A.O.B. or the B.B.C. After a few drinks and a laugh the evening came to a close with everyone having a good time and eagerly awaiting the return match next year.
